A series of sculptures constructed using shattered glass I collected from the streets of London. These were made by foiling the edges of each shard I found in copper, and then using a silver based solder to join them together, letting the edges of each piece guide the form of the sculpture.
These sculptures are a continuation of attempts to highlight beauty in the everyday; by collecting discarded glass, a material often associated with value and reverence, yet found thrown away & shattered in the streets.
Each sculpture was made by letting the edges of the shards match and dictate where the sculpture would progress, while additionally maintaining a unique guiding directive for each sculpture;
The first one sought to have an “inside”, almost able to serve as a vessel
The second one had each piece need to be able to progress the work upwards
The third started from a red central shard, and grew out in each direction
